Constipated? Thy this!

Constipation – it affects us all from time to time, if you are not passing one bowel movement a day then you are classed as constipated. If this is a regular occurrence for you then listen up.

There are probably 3 reasons why you are suffering from constipation

1.       You are not drinking enough water! This is so SO important if you are not drinking enough water you will not be able to go to the loo regularly. Carry around a bottle with you, chilly’s have great bottles that keep your water cool. Aim to drink 1.5 l – 2 l of filtered water per day.

2.       You are not eating enough fibre; in the west we eat around 15-17g per day. The recommended daily amount is 30g per day but I believe we should be getting more. Fibre is in all fruits and veg and don’t forget the skins have lots of fibre too. Oats, flaxseeds and nuts contain insoluble fibre that is needed to drag the food through the bowel.

3.       Exercise, if you are sat at a desk for 8 hours solid all day, every day you are going to be bloated and constipated! Get up more around, go for a 10-minute walk at lunch to get things moving.

4.       If you are still constipated after trying all these do not use laxatives, try a natural herb or supplement like the ayurvedic herb triphala or magnesium which is mother nature’s relaxant and can aid with constipation relief. ,
